XL-2000 DIGITAL GAGE AMPLIFIER

DUAL PROBE INPUTS - The XL-2000's differential gaging system allows quick and accurate size, concentricity and straightness measurements throughout the plant.

The "A+ B" function puts readings from both probes into a summing mode for direct measurement of length, diameter or thickness. "A - B" provides a differential mode for direct measurement of taper, concentricity or parallelism.

When measuring concentricity or diameters, differential gaging techniques allow cancellation of spindle runout errors. In general, precision spindles and other costly fixtures can usually be avoided.

PEAK HOLD CAPABILITY - The XL-2000 speeds up measurements like inside and outside diameters that require a search for high and low points. The highest or lowest value hit during a part scan is held on the display until reset. Also, the TIR function calculates the difference between the highest and lowest peaks for concentricity and parallelism measurements.

DIGITAL TOLERANCE LIMITS - Upper and lower tolerances may be user programmed-DIGITALLY! No high and low masters or screwdriver adjustments are necessary. Three limit lights help operators quickly make accept/reject and sorting decisions.

READING MULTIPLIER - If your application requires a 2:1 or 1:2 measurement correction due to gage fixture geometry the XL-2000 has the capability built in.

INCH/METRIC CONVERSION - Direct conversion from inches to millimeters is available any time at the touch of a button.

CHOICE OF GAGE PROBES - The XL-2000 accepts Brunswick's standard LVDT gage probe models. The rugged 220 series cartridge probes directly replace mechanical dial indicators in most fixtures and gage stands.

SYSTEM FLEXIBILITY - Internally mounted option cards allow customization of the XL-2000 for system integration. Various data I/O formats are supported allowing direct connection to data acquisition, SPC or control devices and computers.

The open system architecture of Brunswick's XL-2000 Digital Gage Amplifier makes it possible to easily expand on an already impressive set of standard features. With plug-in option modules, the XL-2000 may be tailored to suit a variety of interface and automation applications.

Any two (different) of the following option cards may be installed in the XL-2000 and operated simultaneously.

OC-2000-1 (RS232 Output)

The OC-2000-1 card provides the XL-2000 with serial digital data output capability. The 25 pin female "D" connector allows simple connection to a wide variety of computer and peripheral equipment utilizing the RS232 serial data transmission standard. Two switchable modes of operation are available for initiating data output:

Pulse Trigger Mode will transmit data upon receiving a pulse at the "CTS" input pin.

Switch Trigger Mode will transmit data upon a switch closure at the rear panel "Data Request" connector.

Transmission baud rates and data parity type are selectable via DIP switches.

OC-2000-2 (Mitutoyo Output)

The OC-2000-2 card provides the XL-2000 with synchronous serial digital data output capability. The output format and connector are designed to exactly emulate the output produced by Mitutoyo brand digital instruments. This output type is desirable due to the large number of other software and hardware products already conforming to the Mitutoyo standard.

The XL-2000 may be connected directly to the Brunswick Ultra-Port Digital Gage Multiplexer using this interface option.

OC-2000-3R (Tolerance Limit Relays) The OC-2000-3R card provides the XL-2000 with a set of single pole, double throw relay contacts that operate in sync with the front panel tolerance limit indicators. External automation, sorting or alarm devices may be directly controlled through connection to these relays.

The standard XL-2000 unit provides three-stage tolerance limits (UNDER, GOOD and OVER). The OC-2000-3R card, as shipped, is set to operate in the same manner. The card may also be switched to operate in a five-stage mode. In addition to the UNDER, GOOD and OVER conditions, five-stage operation adds two more conditions (GOOD/UNDER and GOOD/OVER). These additional limit conditions are indicated on the front panel by combining two of the three lights accordingly.

An 18 position barrier type terminal strip is provided for connection of wiring to external equipment. Normally open, closed and common contacts are available for all five relays. Each relay may switch up to a 5 amp load directly.

An "INHIBIT" feature is provided that unconditionally drives the unit into the "GOOD" condition when the inhibit pin is grounded. The inhibit feature will allow the system to disregard an out of tolerance condition that can occur before and after a part is in place.

OC-2000-3L (Tolerance Limit Logic) The OC-2000-3L card provides all the features of the OC-2000-3R relay card except that the relays are replaced by 0 to +5VDC TTL output logic. Both normally low and normally high outputs are provided for each of the five limit conditions.

OC-2000-5 (Remote Control Input) The OC-2000-5 card provides the capability of direct remote control over all the various operation modes of the XL-2000 unit.

Automated systems, based on programmable controllers or other control devices, may be directly connected to the XL-2000, and may issue commands to set or change any of the front panel settings.

An 18 position barrier type terminal strip is provided for connection of wiring from external equipment. Each remote control function is actuated by connecting one or more of the connection points to ground. Simple wire jumpers, external switch contacts or relay closures may be used to actuate the various functions. The card also accepts signals from 0 to +5VDC logic outputs.

The XL-2000 front panel LED indicators change in conjunction with any remote control selections to constantly display operational status.
